Safety Supervisor

The Safety Supervisor works with and through management, to ensure compliance with safety and environmental procedures and to assist in the achievement of profitability/productivity requirements. Under the direction of the Safety Manager, the Safety Supervisor is responsible for providing support to the supervisors and associates. This position will provide leadership and coordination of the day-to-day safety requirements of assigned projects, personnel, and the company’s operations.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Occupational Health and Safety & Risk Management degree preferred
  • Experience in safety and OSHA compliance; 3 – 5 years is preferred
  • Experience in food safety and manufacturing industry is preferred

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work well and efficiently with a wide variety of people at all levels
  • Demonstrated strengths in problem solving, planning, and coordinating initiatives
  • Working knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicate and enforce policies and programs under the direction of management
  • Promote safety and ensure protocols are being followed which include but are not limited to monitoring proper use of PPE and proper physical techniques for performing job responsibilities such as bending, lifting, and carrying
  • Inspect production sites for compliance with contract requirements, company requirements, and OSHA standards
  • Identifying problem areas and developing resolutions with the safety team
  • Ensure that all employees maintain current certifications related to their positions and perform required trainings
  • Conduct new hire safety orientations and have direct involvement with accident/incident investigations
  • Provide active job site presence for employees on safety matters and build trust and respect among team members
  • Travel to all sites and work closely with all departments
  • Assist in strengthening our existing program and culture and minimize the risk of work-related accidents
  • Review existing policies and procedures
  • Adhere to all the rules and regulations
  • Enforce preventative measures
  • Assist managing safety equipment, PPE, and supply stock and needs
  • Assist with site emergency drills and monitor employee response and readiness
  • Maintain required safety and health documents/files.
  • Assist with periodic safety and other required training
  • Continually add value to training material through comprehensive evaluation

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear; climb stairs and/or ladders. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Be able to stand for at least an eight to twelve (8-12) hour period
  • Be able to lift, carry, handle and grasp at least 35 lbs (occasionally)
  • Be able to lift, carry, handle and grasp at least 50 lbs (occasionally)
  • Be able to push and pull a wheeled pallet jack or rack to move items weighing up to 400 lbs
  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from waist to overhead and be able to lift from the floor to waist up to 50 lbs (occasionally)

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Be able to work in a cold environment in temperatures as low as 40 degrees
  • Be able to work in a heated environment in temperatures as high as 110 degrees
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • May be exposed to cleaning chemicals, loud equipment and machines, and other environmental hazards associated with a production facility
