Dr. Martin has over 30 years of experience in occupational safety management in a variety of industries including oil and gas, material handling processes and equipment, construction, manufacturing, cranes, heavy haul transportation, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, industrial hygiene, toxicology, epidemiology, environmental consulting, and online instruction/curriculum development. Dr. Martin has a successful consulting business serving all of these industries (KLME Martin Associates LLC) and a podcast that explores the struggles of practitioners within the safety profession (The Safety Struggle).
Dr. Martin is a past-President of the BCSP Board of Directors (2018 and 2019), the past Chair of the BCSP Foundation Board of Trustees (2018 and 2019), the National Safety Council Marion Martin award winner (2018), and the Board of Global EHS Credentialing ABIH Impact award winner for 2021. Dr. Martin also received the 2017 Robert G. Mayes, Sr. Distinguished Faculty of the Year Award at Columbia Southern University.
Dr. Martin is the Lead Editor for the 11th Edition of the National Safety Council’s Supervisors’ Safety Manual and she actively volunteers as an Editorial Review Board Member for Safety Science, Journal of Safety Research, ACS: Chemical Health and Safety, and several other peer-reviewed academic journals. Linda is currently a Faculty Member at Columbia Southern University and an Adjunct Associate Professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Worldwide teaching in bachelor’s and master’s degree programs for occupational safety and human factors.
Dr. Martin was the 2021 Moderator for the National Safety Council’s Campbell Symposium Research event and the National Safety Council’s Work to Zero Conference. She is sought-after speaker and contributor at industry events on emerging technology and science related to worker health and safety and has served as a contributor on several ANSI/ISEA worker health and safety performance standards.
Dr. Martin holds a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Occupational Health and Safety, a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA), a Master’s in Occupational Safety Management (MS), and a Bachelor’s (BS) in Geology. Dr. Martin is also a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), a Master Safety Professional (MSP), a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), and is a Professional Geologist (PG/CG) in three states (ME, NH, WI).
